Indigent Defense Screenings

Screenings for Indigent Defense or Public Defender applications are conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Office of the Clerk of Court. 

If your family member or friend is currently incarcerated at the Pickens County Detention Center, a representative from the Office of the Clerk of Court visits weekly to process applications that have been completed. Please advise your family member or friend to request an application if needed.

If your family member or friend is incarcerated at another facility and has pending Pickens County charges that he/she is not represented on and wishes to complete an application, please contact the Clerk of Court, Pat Welborn, for more information at (864)898-5857.

What to bring with you:

  • Photo ID
  • $40.00 CASH (Non-refundable application fee)
  • Social Security Number
  • You must be able to provide the total income of ALL persons living in the household with you. (No exceptions)
  • Tickets and/or warrants for criminal charge(s)
  • Form IV for Magistrate charge(s)
  • Family Court Docket number for DSS or Juvenile case(s)
  • List of charge(s) for Juvenile case(s)
  • Documentation of household income and/or Government Aid/ Assistance
