Roy Costner III, Vice Chairman

pickens (173)-2Roy B. Costner, III grew up in Forest City, NC. Upon graduation from East Rutherford High School, he attended Clemson University and obtained a BS in Computer Science.  Roy has always had a heart for service and was a member of the National Service Fraternity Alpha Phi Omega.  Immediately after college, he formed a band with four other musicians and traveled along the east coast, performing at various resorts for two years.  He moved back to Liberty and created a company with three partners called Key Animation located in Powdersville.  This company, the first of its kind in SC, was a broadcast quality 3D computer animation house inside of a recording studio.  After two years of incredible success, he sold the company and married his best friend, Angie, and went to work for an Orthopedic Surgeon in Easley.  Five years later, Roy went to work for Clear Channel Radio in Greenville.  After becoming GSM for WMYI and WSSL, he then moved to Charter Communications (now Spectrum Reach), also in Greenville, as a Local Sales manager.  Having worked for 24 years in Radio and TV he was most recently promoted to Manager of Sales Effectiveness Training where he works directly with the managers and sales teams across the country throughout the Spectrum Reach Enterprise.  Roy and Angie have been married for 31 years and are blessed with: two children, Roy B, IV and Tori; a daughter-in-law, Emma; a son-in-law, Logan; and four grandchildren, Ellie, Rory, Archie and Ollie. 

Roy has been active in his hometown of Liberty and has served on continues to serve on several boards in Pickens and the Upstate.  He has served on: United Christian Ministries, The Ronald McDonald House of the Carolinas, Preserving Our Sothern Appalachian Music (POSAM), Greenville County Crime stoppers, Foothills Playhouse of Easley, ACOG, GPATS, Alliance Pickens, TATT, SC Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame and Upstate Alliance.  He was also given the first “Key to the City” for his work and development of Liberty Idol and is credited with creating the Michelin North American Invention Convention and Pickens County’s Got Talent for the School District of Pickens County.  Roy and his family attend Hilltop Wesleyan Church in Liberty. He has served as Minister of Music for Liberty First Baptist Church and Youth Pastor for Fellowship Community Church in Liberty.  As a part of his dedication to ministry, Roy wrote and directed the musical Fried Apple Pies (an Easter Story) and the movie Christmas Possibilities which aired on ROKU TV.

Roy is currently Vice Chairman of Pickens County Council, representing District 4 (the Liberty District) and has called Liberty home for over 30 years.  He is currently serving as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Association of Counties.   Roy is passionate about his family, having a continued involvement in Christian ministries, music, writing and acting in theatrical productions, and serving the great people of Liberty and Pickens County.
