Short-Term Rentals

Pickens County is requiring all Short-Term Rentals to become compliant with local law. In Pickens County, a Short-Term Rental is defined as:

A fee is imposed on the gross proceeds derived from the rental or changes for any rooms, campground spaces, lodgings, or sleeping accommodations furnished to transients by any hotel, inn, tourist court, tourist camp, motel, campground, residence or any place in which rooms, lodgings, or sleeping accommodations are furnished to transients for a consideration.

Short-Term Rentals are subject to local accommodations fee (see Pickens County Code of Ordinances, Article IV Section 10; Chapter 10 - BUSINESSES | Code of Ordinances | Pickens County, SC | Municode Library. Providers of short-term rentals are required to collect the local accommodations fee from the consumer of rental services and then remit the tax to Pickens County on the 20th day of the applicable month, or the next business day if the 20th is not a business day. There is a penalty of 5% of Fee due if not paid by the 20th of the following month. If you are using a third-party vendor or property management company to manage your short-term rental, it is your responsibility to make sure the local accommodations fee is being collected and remitted.
