MISSION
The mission of the Storm Water Management Department is to implement, and enforce
a storm water management program that is designed to reduce the discharge of pollutants
to the county’s storm water system and the receiving waters of Pickens County and
to minimize adverse impacts on human health and the environment in accordance with
regulatory requirements.
GOALS

Maintain and improve water quality and reduce pollutants in stormwater runoff from
construction activities

Develop educational programs about the impacts of storm water discharges

Develop a program to detect and eliminate Illicit discharges

Implement and enforce the Pickens County Stormwater Ordinance
- Comply with the State of South Carolina NPDES General Permit for Stormwater Discharges
from Regulated Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s)

Q: How will the Stormwater Program be funded?
A: Presently, the office is being funded out of the General Fund.
Q: Will the county clean out retention ponds, holding
basins and/or storm drains?
A: If the property has been deeded to the County, they will maintain it. Otherwise,
it is the responsibility of the builder, developer or Homeowners Association.
Q: What is the goal of the Stormwater Management Program?
A: To protect the quality of Pickens County's water ways by eliminating pollution
from stormwater runoff to the maximum extent practical.
